The original native americans were the Nuu-ciu (Ute). The story behind its name is that two surveyors proclaimed it was the perfect place for a biergarten and called it the Garden of the Gods. The name stuck. The children of Charles Elliot donated the area to be forever available to the public in its pristine state.
