Mail seems to have gone though (showed up in my sent mail tab, or whatever it's called) but also showed the message below at the top of my browser screen right after.

I seem to recall getting this message before and making sure my email was verified if that matters.

OK another glitch, I mailed three players (player1, player2, player3) and they all seem to have gone through as shown in the "sent mail" tab, but on the notification area up top it did not show player3.
Also maybe it would be better to have them shown together on one line followed by commas instead of all on one line?

Yeah, thanks for bringing this up. The game-site mailbox is still the old php code that hasn't been updated in a decade. I'm not sure how to approach this going forward, so I would love to know how you use it, and what for mainly.

We have a Direct Message system here in the forum: Direct Messages Did you know about that?

So I was wondering:
  1. Do you ever use DM message system in the forum?
    • Why or why not?
  2. Do you prefer the message system on the main page?
    • Why?
  3. What do you use it for mainly? How do you use it?
  4. What sort of message/inbox system would you like to see?

1. sometimes, but rarely, unfortunately. it requires being in the forum, not everyone is, certainly not regular enough for reliable messaging (i think)
2. i prefer the message system in the forums, it is much more powerful. but the message system on the main page has the major advantage of being on the main page - it is just a lot more immediate / visible
3. for game invites in the past (replaced now by recruitment centre). now for everything else that is asynchronous (instead of game chat)
4.the forum messaging system globally on the entire site. not sure if this is possible / what this involves, but the ability to have group chats could be extremely useful for team games, clans, forum tournaments, birthday parties..

So ideally you would like the PM message system that the forum uses to be accessible from the main site. In other words, replace the game-site inbox with the one the forum uses.... correct?

yes ea

yes exactly

How do would you react to (or the players react to) replacing the link from the current dogtag INBOX that takes you to the forum message system, and then a button to take you back again when your done? Is that cheating? Or is that a temporary fix?

Is that cheating? Or is that a temporary fix?
i was actually wondering whether there is an unobtrusive way to integrate the forum a little more into the site. more traffic here would certainly be useful for all kinds of reasons, but particularly when it comes to organising forum tournaments and stuff like that. on the other hand, when the player base grows, the forum traffic will likely grow too?

anyway, short answer: it isnt exactly elegant, but i would prefer it to the current messaging on the main page, so yes in my opinion it could certainly be a temporary fix.

i like the regular inbox system, altho tbh i have barely ever used the private messaging via forum. i like that the dogtag and inbox show when on the main page and in games, and it seems to me that going to the forum to check messages, or even for team chats in the majority of games, is an extra out-of-the-way step. but having said that (i can't believe i said having said that bc i hate that expression lol) it makes sense to have one, rather than two, separate message systems, and if u think the forum messages have more capability, i'm willing to weather another MC change :)

I didn't know about the DM function, though as I and I assume most others don't visit the forums regularly I'm thinking that fixing the existing in-site mail function would be better. I use the in-site mail system mainly for game invites (outgoing and incoming) and if I want to get someone's attention regarding discussing moves in a given game.

Related it might be nice if replies to ones threads or other "watched threads" in the forums here were relayed via that mail system - this would be better than via regular email as it would be more relevant to ones activities here and as some people probably don't check the email they used do sign up to this site regularly. And the same for game invites, I got one about a week ago and only was notified by regular email IIRC.

And I'm also wondering if it would be preferable to most people if the forums were to open in a new browser page instead of the same one as the regular game site, I think I would prefer that myself.
